Now that you have made the important decision to come to Australia, it is time to put your plans into action. Here are some pointers to help with the application process.
Choosing a courseThink about your career plans, and which courses will help with these plans. When considering the courses available, look at the entrance and English language requirements to check that you are eligible to apply. If not, you may have to consider another course, or foundation study that may lead into your desired course.
Once you have decided on the best course for you, you need to find out which education providers offer this course, and which has the best options for you. Some points you may wish to consider are the areas of speciality within each course, the international support the university offers, the accommodation and course costs, and which location suits you best.
The course search function on this website has information on different education providers and the courses they offer.
Completing your application formHaving chosen your course(s) and education provider(s), it is now time to apply. Contact your preferred education provider to find out about their application rules and requirements as these will differ for each provider. Contact details for providers can be found on this website using the search function. (link to course search)
You can also contact an Australian education agent. The Australian Diplomatic Post in your country will be able to refer you to an appropriate agent. Contact details for overseas posts can be found on the Department of Immigration site.
Your application form will ask you which course(s) you are applying for and tell you what documentation you need to supply. Generally you will be expected to provide proof of your education qualifications and your English language ability.
Once you have completed your form, done any necessary research and attached all required documents, your application can be sent to the education provider or to your education agent.
If, at any time in the application process, you are uncertain of how to proceed, don't hesitate to contact the education provider or your education agent – they are there to help.
Processing of your applicationOnce your application is received by the education provider it will be assessed and you will be notified of the result. Successful applicants are issued an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). You must have an eCoE or letter of offer to apply for your student visa. In some instances you will be requested to undergo a pre-visa assessment before your eCoE is issued.
Applying for your student visaNow that you have been accepted by your education provider it is time to apply for your student visa.
Getting ready to travel
Now that your enrolment and visa is organised you need to organise your plane ticket and finances.
Along with your confirmation of enrolment your education provider will send you an information pack. This will include lots of useful information to make your arrival in Australia easy. There will be information on the city, accommodation, orientation programs and your course. It will also provide some tips to help with packing.
It is a good idea to arrange accommodation before you leave, even if it is just for the first few weeks of your stay. You can also organise for your education provider to meet you at the airport so that they can take you straight to your accommodation and make sure that you start settling in immediately.
