Monash University
I first heard about Monash University from a cousin who spoke highly of it. When choosing a course and university, it was really important to me which universities were rated at the top in the world, as well as in Australia. After analysing each university and the cost of studying at each, I decided to study at Monash University because it was one of the eight leading universities in Australia, and is also highly recognized in Sri Lanka.

I chose to study the Bachelor of Computing* at Monash University as I am interested in a career in software development, and this course offered subjects that taught the skills required for this area of IT.

What also attracted me to the course was the Industrial Experience Project. I gained programming skills, design skills (such as web site development), managerial experience and ability to use tools and techniques that are currently used in software development. This all built my confidence and skills to work as an individual or as part of a team. In the future I plan to start small software development company, and slowly build up my client base.

The best thing about studying at Monash was the staff - they were so helpful. There are also great support programs for international students. Whilst on campus I took advantage of the sports complex at Clayton, working out in the gym and playing squash with friends I had made.

Living in Melbourne has been a very valuable experience. I enjoyed living amongst a diversity of cultures, and the one thing I like the most is how Australians respect honesty and fairness.

My advice to anyone considering studying IT at Monash is to go for it! You will gain knowledge and skills to start your future career in IT.

* The Bachelor of Computing is the previous form of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems with a major in Systems development.
