Name: Yuki Hirajo
Country of Origin: Japan
Area of Study: Sociology – MA in Photography and Urban Cultures
Place of Study: London, UK – Goldsmiths, University of London
Age: 23
University previously attended: Gakushuin University in Tokyo, Japan (completed a BA in English and American Literature)
“I have found Goldsmiths looks after students very well academically and individually. If I have any problems, staff take care of me well. As an international student, this is very important and gratifying. I feel that Goldsmiths, especially my department, is like a family. In fact, I have already found this out during the application process! I have no worries about my life at Goldsmiths.
The reason I chose Goldsmiths was because it has an excellent reputation for Sociology. I studied English Literature for my BA in Japan and I wanted to know about the social facts behind literature in more depth for my further study. I had an interest in English people’s notion towards Eastern people in terms of its relation as a dominator. I am interested in the minorities’ identities in society, especially postcolonial cities, and I am learning it from a variety of angles. I am very excited and satisfied with my programme and hope it further opens up my eyes.”
