Initially, when I arrived at CSU Chico I was really excited and busy choosing my classes and attending orientation, but after about three weeks into the semester I felt homesick and overwhelmed. That feeling passed as I made new friends and became very busy!
My favorite class is CSCI 245 – Web Programming and Dr. Steinback, who is one of the best professors in the computer science department, taught it. This class gave me an opportunity to integrate and apply the subjects I have studied in my previous semesters such as programming, user interface design, and database management systems.
Some of the classes require teamwork and some are purely individual work at CSU Chico. Either way it is a very interactive atmosphere.
My favorite place on campus has to be the creek running through the campus. So many times I have had my snacks and lunches sitting by the creek and enjoying the beauty of it. It is my instant getaway place on campus.
By studying in the United States I learned a lot about myself such as my strengths and weaknesses. It is like self-realization to me. Also, I learned a lot about other cultures and other countries by meeting people from different parts of the world, which made me realize how similar all of us are once we pass the language and cultural barriers.
My favorite American experience is traveling. It amazes me how some states are totally different from another when it comes to landscapes, weather, culture, and lifestyle.
My advice to future students is be open to learn about and appreciate other cultures. Make sure to participate in campus and student organizations to understand the campus’ culture and history.
